Alpha2A,2B,and2CadrenergicreceptorsareseventransmembranereceptorsthatcoupletoinhibitoryG-proteins.Alpha2ChasawidedistributionpatternintheCNS.OnneuronsAlpha2adrenergicreceptorsarelocatedonbothpre-andpostsynapticdomainswheretheymediateaninhibitoryroleinthecentralandperipheralnervoussystem.Alpha2ChasawidedistributionpatternintheCNS.Atthespinalcordlevelthevastmajorityofalpha2Cisnotofprimaryafferentorigin;however,asmallfractionofneuronsinDRGdoexpressmRNAforalpha2Candharbortheprotein.Colocalizationhasbeenobservedbetweenalpha2Candenkephalininthespinalcorddorsalhorn,suggestingthatalpha2Cmaybeexpressedbyasubsetofspinalinterneurons.Thedistributionpatternofalpha2Csuggestsfunctionsatseverallevelsinthebrain.Antibodyshowedpositivestaininginratspinalcorddorsalhorn,ventralhornmotorneuronsandretina.Whenexaminedinotherbrainregionsknowntoexpressα2Astainingwasnotobserved.
