CaV2.1Ca2+channel(alsoknownasVoltage-gated/dependentT-typecalciumchannelalpha-1subunit,andCACNA1C) encodesanalpha-1subunitofavoltage-dependentcalciumchannel.Calciumchannelsmediatetheinfluxofcalciumionsintothecelluponmembranepolarization.Thealpha-1subunitconsistsof24transmembranesegmentsandformstheporethroughwhichionspassintothecell.Thecalciumchannelconsistsofacomplexofalpha-1,alpha-2/delta,beta,andgammasubunitsina1:1:1:1ratio.Therearemultipleisoformsofeachoftheseproteins,eitherencodedbydifferentgenesortheresultofalternativesplicingoftranscripts. Itbindstoandisinhibitedbydihydropyridine.Alternativesplicingresultsinmanytranscriptvariantsencodingdifferentproteins.
